Nowadays the name of the game is how much you can fit into as small an area as you possibly can. You can buy computer desks which have storage areas on them rising far above the monitor. One thing that newly built modern houses tend to have in com is that they're very small.

There are of course beds which can store things in boxes underneath but if you're doing that than you might as well go. Thankfully, with just a few small changes to you bedroom you can increase the available space by up to a third with almost no effort. Gone are the days when there was a wealth of space that could be built on, leading to large spacious houses with large spacious bedrooms. For some reason, beds seem to be one of the only items in the bedroom that don't take advantage of the space above it. Wardrobes and book cases can store vast amounts of items simply because they're so tall, generally nearly hitting the ceiling.

Yet when it comes to beds, the one piece of furniture which by far covers the majority of the bedroom's floor there seems to have been very little attempt to make use of the space above it.
